Learning Log #3 (Sept 22nd - 28th) Due 30th

Homeroom - Learning Logs, worked on putting together our new Homeschool zipper binders.
Math -  Cacluladder worksheets, one a day.  Weather worksheets.
English -  Started Easy Grammar, one a day.  Started Apples Daily Spelling, one a day.  Handwriting worksheet, one a day.  Practiced reading by reading George Washington's Rules of Civility.
History - Monday Co-op.  Learned about the Pilgrims and Plymouth Rock.   Role Played what it was like to live in England with a King and cast Systems (the Lot in Life game).  Read the Mayflower Compact, voted like the pilgrims for our first governor.  Made little Mayflowers and floated them.   Friday Co-op.  Inquiry work throughout the week.
Technology -
P.E. - Homeschool Parkday
Music and Art - Ward Choir.  Practice for the musical Beauty and the Beast at home.

Math -  Got Paid allowance and went shopping at the dollar store,  Cacluladder worksheets, one a day.  Weather worksheets.
English - Handwriting worksheet, one a day.  Practiced reading by reading George Washington's Rules of Civility.
History - Learned about Pocahontas and Captain John Smith, and Roanoak's lost colony.  Friday Co-op Learning about Indians and playing Indian games..  Indian Sign Language, I am going to Jamestown Game. Inquiry's work throughout the week.
Technology - Played computer game, learned about animation jobs.

Homeroom - Lerning Logs
Math -  Kids working on Cacluladder worksheets, one a day.  C is eager about it, and overcoming the belief that she is bad at math and passing off several levels.  Kids doing graphing worksheets based on daily weather.
English - Kids doing one handwriting worksheet a day.  Practiced reading by reading George Washington's Rules of Civility.
History - Made Journal of Discoveries to document our learning for the year 3 hours.  Assembled our Almanacs that keep track of our school work for the year 1 hour.  Made a family coat of arms using traditional symbols 1.5 hours.  Learned about the meaning of symbols for coat of arms.  Attended a kick off party for our co-op with other families that introduced what we are doing for the year 3 hours.
Technology - took apart an old computer.
P.E. - Homeschool Parkday
Music and Art - Attended Choir with our ward 1 hour.  Attended practice for the musical Beauty and the Beast 3 hours.

History - 8.5

History - Monday Co-op - Listened to a speech from Moroni, made a title of liberty, played getting to know you game, 2 hours.   Friday reenacted the call to arms from the BOM, 2 hours.  Inquiry's work throughout the week. Researched types of armor 1 hour , made armor 5 hours.
Technology -  Set up our canvas, Watched videos about canvas and the instructors, Set up Bamboo, Played the Bamboo Bird game and a Mona Lisa game, and the Wrold Game.  Also set up a notebook.  Wrote names, drew shapes.  C did scrapbook pages.  Working on Flip Book doing a drawing and an animation.

Family Charges

Mama - Goose (Resourcefulness), with outstretched wings (Swiftness and protection) crowned by a rainbow (Good times after bad).
Daughter 1 -  is represented by a Cat a lioness to be exact (Liberty, vigilance, forecast, and courage) with an armored fist (Leadership).
Daughter 2 -  is represented by a dog (Courage, vigilance, and loyalty) surrounded by fire (Zealousness).


Daughter 3 -  is represented by a peacock (Beauty, power, and knowledge) and a feather (obedience and serenity).


Son 1 -  is represented by a Hawk (One who does not rest until his objective is achieved) and a Lightning Bolt (Swiftness and power).


Son 2 -  is represented by an Otter (One who lives life to the fullest) and a Fleur-de-lis (Purity; light)

Family Coat of Arms or Crest

For our Adventure Co-op each family introduced themselves at the Kick-off party.  When I told my kids that we needed to make a poster or something to introduce us they wanted to do a family flag.  Their primary teachers made a family flag and they liked that and wanted to do something like that.  I thought making a coat of arms would be fun and they jumped on it.  So here is the coat of arms we made for  the kick off party,  we had it printed and it is now hanging in our front room.




Name Banner - Maroon (Patient in battle, and yet victorious)

Eagle with two heads (Conjoining of two forces)

Golden  Eagle represents Jeff giving the gift of  Gold (Generosity and elevation of the mind), and of a wheat sheaf (The harvest of one's hopes has been secured) in orange (worthy ambition).

Silver Eagle represents Jeanine giving the gift of Silver (Peace and sincerity), and a fish (A true, generous mind; virtuous for himself, not because of his heritage; also unity with Christ, spiritual nourishment) in orange (worthy ambition).

The shield is divided by a chevron (Protection; Builders or others who have accomplished some work of faithful service) in silver (Peace and sincerity).  The top of the chevron shows an Embattled Line (Walls of a fortress or town.  The Bottom of the Chevron is a Raguly Line (Difficulties that have been encountered.)

The top field is represents the parents with Jeff on the left and Jeanine on the right.  This field is blue representing the parental attributes of Truth and loyalty.

The bottom field is green which represents the childlike attributes of Hope, joy, and loyalty in love.  This area represents the Peel kids in age order Daughter 1 the highest, Daughter 2 the second highest, Son 1 on the male side, Daughter 3 on the female side and Son 2 on the bottom.

The family charges will be described in the next post.

The Motto on the bottom is Anxiously Engaged on an orange banner (worthy ambition, or good cause.)
